Emiliano Pennisi is a Palermo-based electronic musician, sound artist and composer working under the names Avenir and PureData. Active since the late 1990s, his practice spans experimental electronics, musique concrète, electroacoustic composition and generative sound, exploring the intersections of rhythm, texture, noise and sonic abstraction. His work has appeared on experimental labels including Heat Crimes and Opal Tapes. His archival release Primitive Maxi Trial (Heat Crimes, 2025) was selected as Album of the Week by Boomkat. His wider discography and collaborations span labels and platforms such as Discreet Archive, Sonntag Morgen, Concrete Records, One Instruments and TipTop Audio. Alongside his musical output, Pennisi designs experimental instruments and generative systems using Max/MSP, Max for Live and modular synthesis, with a particular focus on algorithmic composition, nonlinear processes, feedback networks and unconventional sound synthesis. He is the founder and moderator of r/musiconcrete, a pioneering Reddit community dedicated to musique concrète, and hosts Free Psychic Energy Reading, his residency on LYL Radio. His DJ sets extend this research into a fluid exploration of adventurous electronic music, moving between fractured rhythms, experimental club structures, abstract sound design and unexpected sonic territories.
